Allianz Field is one of the best soccer-specific venues built in the last decade — a glowing, PTFE-wrapped spaceship dropped into St. Paul's Midway neighborhood that somehow manages to feel intimate despite holding nearly 20,000 people. For away fans, it's a genuinely enjoyable trip: the sightlines are excellent, the locals aren't hostile, and the Green Line drops you practically at the gate. Just don't come here in February wearing light layers — the coldest match in USMNT history was played at this stadium, with a kickoff temperature of 5°F.

What a Trip Here Costs, in Numbers

MLS tickets on Vivid Seats are listed for all 4 upcoming games, starting at $26 (Sporting Kansas City, Oct 28); the priciest game to get into starts at $36 (St. Louis City SC, Oct 17).

A 3-star or better hotel within 15 miles of the stadium runs from $109 a night, based on 145 hotels.

The airport for this trip is Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport / Wold–Chamberlain Field (MSP), 6 miles from the stadium.

The next 12 months bring 4 visiting teams, none of them based within 300 miles. The longest trip: San Jose Earthquakes, 1,580 miles each way.

Ticket prices checked Oct 3; hotel rates checked Oct 2.

Ticket figures are each game's lowest listed price with estimated fees added. The hotel figure is the 25th-percentile nightly rate of the hotels sampled. Distances are straight-line, stadium to airport and stadium to stadium.

How to Get to Allianz Field (Light Rail, Bus, Driving, Rideshare)

Transit is the clear move here. The Metro Green Line runs between downtown Saint Paul and downtown Minneapolis and stops directly in front of Allianz Field at Snelling Avenue. Trains run roughly every 15 minutes throughout most of the day, and Metro Transit typically adds extra service after matches. The walk from the Snelling Avenue station to the gate is about one block — genuinely one of the most convenient transit situations in American soccer.

Coming from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), the routing takes a bit of planning. The Blue Line LRT runs from MSP to downtown Minneapolis, where passengers can connect to the Green Line for service to Saint Paul. Trains depart every 10 minutes during peak times with the journey to downtown Minneapolis taking around 25 minutes. From there, the Green Line takes roughly another 20–25 minutes to Snelling Avenue, putting the full airport-to-stadium transit trip at around 50–55 minutes. A rideshare from MSP runs about 20–30 minutes depending on traffic.

Driving in on I-94, take the Snelling Avenue exit — Allianz Field is located near Interstate 94 and Snelling Avenue. Allianz Field has a designated rideshare pick-up and drop-off point in the southeast corner of the stadium near the intersection of St. Anthony and Pascal.

Houston Dynamo FC, San Jose Earthquakes, and Sporting Kansas City are all heading to Allianz Field this season. Plan your away trip:

Allianz Field Parking: Lots, Prices, and Best Options

Parking at Allianz Field requires advance planning — this stadium was intentionally built without a massive surface lot. The venue has fewer than 1,000 spaces of on-site parking, instead relying on public transit and off-site lots. Rates range from $10 to $50, with lots closer to the stadium being more expensive.

Fans can reserve parking in advance through SeatGeek.com up to two hours prior to kickoff, or purchase directly at the lots which generally open two-and-a-half hours prior to kickoff. Single-game lots are publicly available and generally within a 5–10 minute walk of the stadium. The Easy-In Lot is a publicly available lot that is generally easier to get in and out of on matchday, with about a 15-minute walk to Allianz Field. The Best Value Lots are the most affordable publicly available options but expect about a 20-minute walk on matchday.

The city of Saint Paul has also made four parking ramps in downtown Saint Paul available within walking distance of transit lines with direct routes to Allianz Field — Smith, 7A, Lowertown, and Block 19 ramps — at a $5 rate on matchdays beginning two hours before kickoff. That's the real sleeper option: park downtown St. Paul for $5, grab a drink, and ride the Green Line one stop. All lot transactions are cashless.

Where to Stay Near Allianz Field

The Midway neighborhood itself is more functional than charming — this is a commercial corridor, not a boutique hotel district. Your two realistic base-camp options are downtown St. Paul (about 3 miles east, easily Green Line-accessible) and downtown Minneapolis (about 10 miles west, same line). Downtown St. Paul makes more sense for a Loons game: there are numerous lodging options a few miles east of the stadium in downtown St. Paul. You'll find mid-range chain options (Marriott, Courtyard, DoubleTree) for roughly $120–$200/night, with the added bonus of being walking distance from the excellent Lowertown bar scene for post-game. If you want more hotel variety and nightlife, Minneapolis has more inventory and tends to run slightly cheaper on weeknights — but budget an extra 20–25 minutes to get to the stadium.

Best Bars and Restaurants Near Allianz Field

The Midway Saloon is a St. Paul neighborhood bar featuring live music, weekly events, and a full bar across from Allianz Field. It's the go-to Loons pregame/postgame bar, right across from the stadium, with drink specials, food deals, and matchday celebrations all season long — the True North Elite supporter group organizes the march to the stadium from here. Get there at least 90 minutes before kickoff if you want a seat.

The Blackhart (also written "Black Hart of St. Paul") is an LGBTQ+ soccer bar just about a thousand yards from Allianz Field, serving bar food and hosting food trucks like The Anchor Fish & Chips and Sweet Lou's. It's a more relaxed scene than the Midway Saloon and tends to fill up slightly later in the pre-game window.

Ghebre's Ethiopian restaurant is located just a five-minute walk away and is very highly rated — a genuinely good sit-down meal option if you've arrived in town with time to spare. The Midway's cultural diversity is one of its best assets as a restaurant neighborhood.

On's Kitchen is a few blocks north on Snelling at University, consistently recommended for Thai food — quick, cheap, and solid for a pre-game meal.

Allianz Field Bag Policy, Gates, and Game Day Tips

To better ensure fan safety and expedite entry, Allianz Field has a clear bag policy. Minnesota United encourages fans not to bring a bag. If you must: one clear bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" or a one-gallon clear freezer bag (Ziploc or similar) is permitted. Guests may carry a small clutch bag or purse no larger than 5" x 9", with or without a strap. Starting in the 2024 season, bag check is no longer available, so if you show up with a backpack, you're walking it back to your car.

Gates open 90 minutes prior to kickoff. You may enter the stadium through any gate. There are gates at all four corners of the stadium. For away fans specifically, the south end is where the action is — that's where the home supporter section (the Wonderwall) lives — so arriving via the north or east gates puts you in less chaotic territory. There is a strict no re-entry policy for all Allianz Field events.

Allianz Field Accessibility: ADA Seating, Elevators, and Accessible Entry

There are 280 seats for ADA guests and their companions. All entry lanes at Allianz Field are ADA-compliant. For ADA-accessible seating tickets, contact the Minnesota United Ticket Office at 763.4SOCCER (763.476.2237) or visit mnufc.com/tickets. For accessibility parking needs, the club recommends purchasing a pass in the Cub Foods Lot; the ADA drop-off is located on the east side of the stadium near Simpson Street, accessed from St. Anthony Avenue.

Assisted-listening devices are available for checkout at the guest services booth located behind Section 8 on MNUFC gamedays. The club has partnered with Fraser to provide sensory kits at Allianz Field for individuals and families with sensory processing differences. The kits include visual and communication tools, environmental modification tools, and safety tools. They are available free-of-charge at guest services. A limited number of wheelchairs are available at each gate to assist guests in getting from the gates to their seating area and back.

Allianz Field Seating Guide: Best Seats for Away Fans

The closest seat is 17 feet away from the pitch, while the farthest from the sideline is just 125 feet away — so sightlines are genuinely excellent from nearly anywhere in the building. Away fans are not allocated a formal dedicated section the way they are in many European grounds; you'll generally be mixed in with the home crowd. That said, the north end and upper east side sections give you a solid view without being directly in the middle of the most animated Loons supporters.

The south end — known as the Wonderwall — holds 2,920 fans in the stadium's only safe-standing section and is where the most intense MNUFC supporter groups live. Unless you want to genuinely cheer with the home fans, this is not the place for away supporters. Upon entering from any gate you immediately see the pitch. There are two main seating levels and all seats are easy to get to and sections are clearly marked. For the best mid-range value with good sightlines, sections in the upper east sideline are the sweet spot.

Food and Drink at Allianz Field

Allianz Field features local and diverse food options including chicken tinga tostadas from Nixta, cheese curds with a Cry Baby Craig's coating, vegan-friendly comfort food via J. Selby, oversized Swedish meatballs, and a Bishop Burger stuffed in a pretzel bun with tomato, provolone, Loon Onion Jam, and crispy Old Dutch Chips. The Brew Hall on the north side is a full-service pub with 96 beers on tap and a door that opens toward the field. Expect to pay roughly $12–15 for a craft beer and $14–18 for a full food item — mid-range for an MLS venue. Like many other stadiums, Allianz Field does not accept cash, so bring a card.

Allianz Field for Away Fans

Minnesota United fans are passionate but not hostile — this is not a venue where away fans get abuse walking to their seats. The atmosphere is genuinely impressive: the Wonderwall's 2,920 standing supporters create one of the loudest atmospheres in American soccer, and even as an away fan you'll appreciate the noise more than you'll be bothered by it. The one thing that catches out-of-towners off guard is the weather variable — Allianz Field plays through everything, and Minnesota spring nights can go sideways fast. For the vast majority of weather events, the game will be played as scheduled, including through rain, snow, and extreme cold. Come prepared with layers for evening kickoffs before June or after August. The glowing PTFE exterior at night is legitimately stunning — fans have nicknamed it "Cloud City" for its resemblance to the floating city from Star Wars.

Getting Out of Allianz Field After the Game

Transit: The Green Line is your best post-game bet by a wide margin. Metro Transit adds extra service after matches, and the Snelling Avenue station is right outside. Expect a 10–15 minute wait for a train and some crowding on the platform; trains fill quickly but cycle through often enough. If you're heading to Minneapolis, you'll clear the stadium area well before drivers do — the full ride runs under 30 minutes to downtown Minneapolis.

Driving: Give it at least 20–25 minutes after the final whistle before heading to your car. The lots near Snelling all funnel onto the same streets and back onto I-94, which jams badly in the post-game window. The Easy-In Lots earn their name — they are generally easier to get in and out of on matchday, though they require about a 15-minute walk from the stadium. The trade-off in extra walking is genuinely worth it for a faster exit.

Rideshare: Allianz Field has a designated rideshare pickup zone in the southeast corner of the stadium near the intersection of St. Anthony and Pascal. Expect surge pricing immediately post-match. The best move: walk two or three blocks east along St. Anthony Avenue before requesting your ride. Drivers can actually get to you there, the surge is modestly lower, and you'll likely get picked up 10 minutes faster than people standing in the rideshare queue at the official zone. Wait about 15 minutes post-whistle before requesting if you want to avoid the peak surge.

Pro tip: If you're heading back to Minneapolis, the Green Line is faster than a rideshare after a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Every time.
