BMO Field sits on the western edge of Toronto's downtown lakeshore, inside the sprawling Exhibition Place grounds — a city-owned fairgrounds complex that dates back to 1879. Purpose-built for soccer and noticeably intimate compared to the multi-purpose football bowls you find elsewhere in the league, it holds 30,991 for MLS matches and punches well above its weight in atmosphere. The compact bowl, the canopy roof that traps crowd noise, and genuinely passionate home support make this one of the better away trips in the league. Toronto itself rewards the visit — world-class food, excellent transit, and a waterfront setting that is genuinely beautiful in summer.

What a Trip Here Costs, in Numbers

MLS tickets on Vivid Seats are listed for all 3 upcoming games, starting at $22 (D.C. United, Oct 28); the priciest game to get into starts at $32 (Orlando City SC, Oct 14).

A 3-star or better hotel within 15 miles of the stadium runs from $145 a night, based on 165 hotels.

The airport for this trip is Toronto Pearson International (YYZ), 11 miles from the stadium.

The next 12 months bring 3 visiting teams, none of them based within 300 miles. The longest trip: Orlando City SC, 1,050 miles each way.

Ticket prices checked Oct 3; hotel rates checked Oct 2.

Ticket figures are each game's lowest listed price with estimated fees added. The hotel figure is the 25th-percentile nightly rate of the hotels sampled. Distances are straight-line, stadium to airport and stadium to stadium.

Getting to BMO Field

Transit is the move here — full stop. You have two excellent options that both get you to the stadium gates without touching a car.

GO Transit is the fastest route. Exhibition Station sits just outside the Exhibition Place grounds, one stop west of Union Station on the Lakeshore West line. That's about a seven-minute train ride. On weekends, GO trains run every 15 minutes on the Lakeshore lines from roughly 3 PM to 11 PM, and Metrolinx adds extra trips for big matches. The One Fare system means you can transfer for free between GO Transit and the TTC.

TTC streetcar is the scenic route. The 509 Harbourfront streetcar from Union Station and the 511 Bathurst streetcar from Bathurst Station on the Bloor-Danforth subway line both terminate at Exhibition Loop, right next to the stadium. From Dufferin Station, the 29 Dufferin bus runs south to Exhibition with increased frequency on event days.

From Pearson Airport (YYZ): Take the UP Express train from Pearson to Union Station — 28 minutes, departures every 15 minutes, $12.35 one-way ($9.25 with a PRESTO card, kids under 12 free). From Union, hop the GO train one stop to Exhibition or grab the 509 streetcar. Total door-to-stadium time is about 45–55 minutes. Driving from Pearson is 30–40 minutes depending on traffic, but you'll regret dealing with parking.

Rideshare works fine — Uber and taxis have designated pick-up and drop-off zones near Exhibition Place.

CF Montréal, D.C. United, and Orlando City SC are all heading to BMO Field this season. Plan your away trip:

Parking at BMO Field

On-site parking is available on the Exhibition Place grounds, but it's limited, expensive, and often complicated by other events on the fairgrounds — and there are almost always other events.

The Toronto FC game day rate runs $30 CAD for on-site parking. Lot 852, directly south of BMO Field, is the most convenient but is Green P Parking App exclusive — no cash or card accepted at the lot. Bring the app loaded and ready. Lot 856, west of BMO Field along British Columbia Road, is slightly cheaper and accepts credit, debit, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

Post-game exit traffic on the Gardiner Expressway can be genuinely ugly. If you must drive, book in advance through SpotHero or the Green P app — walk-up availability is unreliable. The smarter play is to park near a GO or subway station outside downtown and train in.

Where to Stay near BMO Field

BMO Field is on the lakeshore just west of the downtown core, so the best hotel strategy is to stay downtown and commute to the game via transit or a short rideshare.

King West / Entertainment District — The sweet spot for most visitors. You're within a $12–15 Uber or a quick 504 King streetcar ride of the stadium, surrounded by Toronto's best restaurant strip and nightlife corridor. Hotels range from boutique to big-chain, and you won't be stuck eating hotel bar food. This is where you want to be if nightlife matters.

Liberty Village — Right across the train tracks from Exhibition Place, this is the closest neighbourhood with real restaurants and bars. It's a growing urban area with a game-day energy that builds as kickoff approaches. A 15–20 minute walk to the stadium gates. Hotels here tend toward mid-range properties and Airbnbs.

Harbourfront / Queen's Quay — Waterfront hotels with lake views and easy streetcar access to the stadium via the 509. Quieter than King West, more scenic, and a good option for families.

Expect mid-range hotels around $150–250 CAD per night depending on the matchup.

Before the Game at BMO Field

Most fans spend pre-match time in Liberty Village, which is a 10–15 minute walk from the stadium gates and packed with spots that cater to the soccer crowd.

Brazen Head Irish Pub — Two minutes from BMO Field at 165 East Liberty Street, with two levels of patio seating that fill up fast on summer game days. This is the default pre-match pub for TFC supporters, and the crowd skews soccer-literate. Arrive early for a table.

Craft Beer Market — A massive two-level warehouse space with over 100 taps of Canadian craft beer and enough room that you won't fight for a seat two hours before kickoff.

Liberty Commons at Big Rock Brewery — One of the largest patios in the neighbourhood. Solid brewery fare, good local beers, and a relaxed atmosphere that works well for groups.

Mildred's Temple Kitchen — An institution. If you want a proper sit-down meal rather than pub food, this is the spot — upscale Canadian dining with arguably the best blueberry buttermilk pancakes in Toronto.

Amsterdam Brewhouse — On the waterfront near Ontario Place, this lakeside brewpub has a summer patio that is genuinely excellent. More of a destination than a pre-game pit stop, but the setting can't be beat.

BMO Field Game Day Tips

BMO Field enforces a clear bag policy. Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" (30.5 cm x 16 cm x 30.5 cm). A one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc-style) is also permitted. Small clutch bags under 6.5" x 4.5" are allowed regardless of material. Backpacks and anything over the size limit will be denied entry, and the stadium does not offer bag check or storage.

BMO Field is a fully mobile ticketing venue — no will-call, no paper tickets. Have your phone charged and your ticket loaded before you join the queue. Gates typically open 90 minutes before kickoff for MLS matches. No re-entry after you exit. Alcohol service cuts off at the 65th minute, so time your beer runs accordingly.

Toronto's summer weather is warm and sometimes humid — June averages 24-26C (75-79F) highs, July pushes closer to 27C (80F). Rain is possible any day, so pack a light jacket. The canopy roof covers most seating but lower rows can get wet in downpours. Sunscreen is a must for afternoon kickoffs.

BMO Field Seating Guide

BMO Field's compact, soccer-specific design means there really aren't bad seats. The bowl is tight to the pitch, sightlines are excellent from every section, and the canopy roof that covers most of the stands creates acoustics that make the place sound considerably bigger than 30,000.

South End (Sections 111–114) — This is the supporters' end. Home to the Red Patch Boys ("The Bunker" in Sections 111–112), U-Sector, Kings in the North, Tribal Rhythm Nation, and Block 114. Standing, singing, drums, tifo displays. Do not buy tickets here as an away fan unless you enjoy confrontation.

West Stand — The main grandstand with the best overall sightlines. Premium sections (Tunnel Club, MBO Club) are at field level with all-inclusive food. The upper deck is the sweet spot for neutral fans who want a complete tactical view.

East Stand — Elevated seating looking across toward the main stand. Good views, slightly less atmosphere. The upper tier here is typically where visiting supporters end up.

North End — Opposite the supporters' section, with a head-on view of goal-mouth action. More relaxed vibe than the south end.

Food and Drink at BMO Field

BMO Field punches well above its weight for stadium food — and that reputation is earned. The undisputed signature item is the carved-to-order Porchetta Sandwich, slow-roasted for 12 hours and served at Panini stands throughout the building. It's the closest thing this venue has to a Dodger Dog, and it's worth the line. Beyond the porchetta, look for the Braised Beef Grilled Cheese, a Smoked Meat Sandwich on a fresh onion bun, a Smoked Turkey Club, and a Vegan Mushroom Focaccia — all served with a side of fresh kettle chips. The poutine program at the Frites stand is equally essential: triple-cooked, house-cut fries dressed up in options like Jerk Chicken Poutine, Steak & Ale Pie Chips, vegan Curry Chips, Braised Pork Birria Fries, and Classic Poutine. These aren't afterthoughts — they're genuine expressions of Toronto's multicultural food culture brought into a stadium context. Tim Hortons coffee is also available , a notably Canadian touch that no visitor should miss on a cool spring evening.

On the beer front, BMO Field is proud to serve Labatt's products, including canned beer and cider from Toronto's own Mill St. Brewery and Brickworks Ciderhouse — the latter two being the local partnership worth calling out. Mill St. and Brickworks are both legitimate Toronto craft institutions, not just sponsor filler. The King Club outside section 107 features a tremendous beer selection with Labatt's products, Mill Street, and many other craft brew options. Expect to pay in the CAD $14–17 range for a tall can or pint at current Toronto pricing (the venue has historically been among the pricier options in Canadian sports — a 2018 report pegged standard cans at CAD $11.25, and prices have risen since). A standard meal — say, the porchetta sandwich or a poutine — will run you roughly CAD $16–22. Non-alcoholic drinks like Coca-Cola products and Tim Hortons coffee typically land in the CAD $5–7 range.

On policy: outside food and beverage are not permitted into the building, and BMO Field is a fully cashless venue — credit cards are accepted at ticket offices, merchandise stands, and fixed concession stands, with Visa, Mastercard, and American Express all welcome. Credit cards, debit cards, and mobile payment options are accepted throughout the stadium. There is no fan-first or value-pricing program equivalent to Mercedes-Benz Stadium's $3 hot dogs here — this is a premium urban venue with premium pricing to match — but fans with food allergies or medical conditions who require specific foods may bring their own, and can call Fan Services at (416) 815-5982 to arrange an exception. Go hungry, go with a card or phone, and make the porchetta your first stop.

BMO Field for Away Fans

BMO Field does not have an officially designated away section, but visiting supporters are typically placed in the north end upper deck (Sections 219–221), a cordoned area that gives you a perfectly decent elevated view down the length of the pitch. Check the official BMO Field or Toronto FC website before your visit, as allocation may shift depending on the match.

The TFC faithful — particularly the Red Patch Boys and the rest of the south end supporters — are loud in a way that builds genuine atmosphere rather than just noise: organized chants, drums, coordinated tifo displays. The compact stadium and canopy roof trap the sound and amplify it. On a midweek knockout match, it can feel genuinely European.

Despite the intensity of the supporters' section, Toronto fans are generally welcoming to away visitors outside the ground. The pre-match pub scene in Liberty Village mixes home and away supporters without issue. Inside the stadium, stay in your designated section and you'll be fine.

Getting Out of BMO Field

Post-match egress is straightforward if you planned your transit in advance. GO Transit runs extra trains after big matches — Metrolinx typically adds four additional Lakeshore line trips, and weekend service runs every 15 minutes until 11 PM. The walk from the stadium to Exhibition Station takes about five minutes, but expect crowds.

The 509 and 511 streetcars run post-match service from Exhibition Loop. During busy summer months, the TTC may extend streetcar service directly onto the Exhibition Place grounds to handle the crowd. The 504 King streetcar on King Street is also an option if you walk north to King.

Rideshare pick-up is slow immediately after the final whistle — surge pricing and long waits. Walk 10 minutes toward Liberty Village and you'll get a car faster and cheaper.

If you drove, brace yourself. The Gardiner Expressway on-ramp gets congested, and 30+ minutes to clear Exhibition Place is not unusual after a sellout. This is why transit is the answer.

BMO Field Accessibility

BMO Field offers accessible seating from multiple vantage points throughout the stadium. Accessible sections are designated with an "A" following the section number and feature barrier-free access with removable seating that can accommodate wheelchairs. Up to four seats can be purchased at a time in an accessible section through Ticketmaster or by phone at 1-855-985-4625 — buying in advance is strongly recommended.

Wheelchair escort service is available from the gates to your seat. Contact Fan Services at 416-815-5982 before the event to arrange this. Six elevators serve the stadium — located on the west side of both the North Plaza and south concourse — connecting fans to the upper west concourse without using stairs.

Accessible parking is in Exhibition Place Lot 2, just south of Gate 3. A free mobility shuttle picks up fans at the southwest corner of Manitoba Drive and Nova Scotia Avenue (across from Exhibition GO Station) every 15 minutes and drops them at their preferred gate.

For questions or to arrange specific accommodations, contact BMO Field Fan Services at 416-815-5982 or email Fanservices@mlse.com.

BMO Field and the 2026 World Cup

BMO Field — renamed Toronto Stadium for the tournament per FIFA naming policy — was one of 16 host venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the smallest stadium in the draw, hosting six matches with a temporarily expanded capacity of approximately 45,000 (17,500+ temporary seats added through a $157.9 million renovation project).

Match Schedule:

  • June 12 — Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina — the first-ever men's World Cup match on Canadian soil
  • June 17 — Ghana vs Panama
  • June 20 — Germany vs Cote d'Ivoire
  • June 23 — Panama vs Croatia
  • June 26 — Senegal vs Iraq
  • July 2 — Round of 32

The Canada opener was a landmark moment — the first men's World Cup match ever played on Canadian soil. Enhanced TTC and GO Transit service ran on all match days, with routes 504, 511, 509, and 29 all receiving increased frequency.

Tips for American Visitors

Crossing the border: You need a valid U.S. passport, passport card, NEXUS card, or Enhanced Driver's License (NY, MI, MN, VT, WA only) — a standard driver's license is not sufficient. Check border wait times before crossing, especially at Lewiston-Queenston or Peace Bridge from Buffalo.

Currency: Everything is priced in Canadian dollars (CAD) — roughly $1 USD = $1.36 CAD, so your money goes a bit further. Canada is extremely card-friendly with contactless tap payments accepted nearly everywhere. Tipping is 15–20% at restaurants, same as the US.

Weather: Toronto summers are warm and humid, with average highs of 26-27C (79-81F) in June and July. Evening matches are comfortable, but afternoon kickoffs can be hot — BMO Field is an open-air venue with limited shade.

BMO Field FAQ

Does BMO Field require a clear bag? Yes. Permitted bags must be clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" (30.5 cm x 16 cm x 30.5 cm). A one-gallon clear freezer bag (Ziploc-style) also works. Small clutch bags under 6.5" x 4.5" are allowed. No backpacks, no bag check, no exceptions.

Where do away fans sit at BMO Field? There's no officially designated away section, but visiting supporters are typically placed in the north end upper deck (Sections 219–221). Avoid the south end (Sections 111–114) — that's the supporters' section and not a place for away colors. Check the Toronto FC website before your visit, as allocation can vary by match.

How do I get from Pearson Airport to BMO Field? Take the UP Express from Pearson to Union Station (28 minutes, $12.35 one-way), then GO Transit one stop to Exhibition Station (7 minutes) or the 509 Harbourfront streetcar. Total travel time is under an hour. The UP Express runs every 15 minutes from 5:27 AM to 12:57 AM daily.

Do I need a passport to attend a match in Toronto? Yes. U.S. citizens must present a valid U.S. passport, passport card, NEXUS card, or Enhanced Driver's License (from NY, MI, MN, VT, or WA) to enter Canada. No exceptions — a standard driver's license is not sufficient.

Is BMO Field cashless? BMO Field operates as a cashless venue for concessions and merchandise. Credit cards, debit cards, and contactless payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay) are accepted throughout the stadium. Canada broadly is one of the most card-friendly countries in the world — you can tap to pay almost everywhere in Toronto.
