Buffalo has always done football the hard way — outdoors, in whatever weather Lake Erie decides to throw at it, inside a stadium that the fanbase treats less like a venue and more like a covenant. The new Highmark Stadium opened in 2026, across the street from the old one, and seats just over 60,000 (about 63,000 with standing room) under a partial canopy that covers more than 60 percent of the seats while the field stays open to the elements. As an away fan, you are walking into one of the loudest, most unified home environments in professional football, and the new building has been specifically engineered to make that worse for you.

What a Trip Here Costs, in Numbers

NFL tickets on Vivid Seats are listed for all 6 upcoming games, starting at $173 (New York Jets, Jan 10); the priciest game to get into starts at $390 (Kansas City Chiefs, Nov 26).

A 3-star or better hotel within 15 miles of the stadium runs from $147 a night, based on 49 hotels.

The airport for this trip is Buffalo Niagara International (BUF), 12 miles from the stadium.

The next 12 months bring 6 visiting teams, 2 of them based within 300 miles. The longest trip: Miami Dolphins, 1,160 miles each way.

Ticket prices checked Oct 3; hotel rates checked Oct 2.

Ticket figures are each game's lowest listed price with estimated fees added. The hotel figure is the 25th-percentile nightly rate of the hotels sampled. Distances are straight-line, stadium to airport and stadium to stadium.

How to Get to Highmark Stadium (NFTA Bus, Driving, Rideshare)

Highmark Stadium is located in Orchard Park, New York, a suburb about 10 miles south of downtown Buffalo. The nearest major airport is Buffalo Niagara International (BUF), roughly 15 miles north of the stadium — plan on 25–35 minutes by car in normal conditions, and easily 60+ post-game.

There is no public transit line that delivers supporters directly from downtown Buffalo or BUF to the stadium. What you have instead is the NFTA Game Day Express, which runs to and from Bills home games for $5 one-way — payable in cash (exact change only) or via the Token Transit app; regular Metro passes are not accepted. Buses leave from the Metropolitan Transportation Center downtown, University Station, Utica Rail Station, Eastern Hills Mall, the Thruway Plaza Transit Center and the Niagara Falls Transportation Center (McKinley Mall is not served), and they drop off and pick up at the stadium's Transit Center near Abbott Road and Southwestern Boulevard. NFTA posts each game's schedule the week before. If you're staying downtown, the Metropolitan Transportation Center is your move.

From downtown Buffalo, Abbott Road south is the most direct driving route, running approximately 12 miles toward the stadium, but the stretch of Abbott Road between Bills Drive and the NFTA Transit Center closes to traffic six hours before kickoff, so use the approach the Bills list for your lot (see Parking below). Route 219 south from the airport corridor is the standard approach for visitors flying in and picking up a rental vehicle. For rideshare, the designated zone is at the eastern end of the former Erie Community College South Campus, next to the stadium. The team itself warns there are not enough rideshare drivers in Western New York for a quick departure, especially after night games, and tells fans to have a backup plan for getting home.

Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, and Kansas City Chiefs are all heading to Highmark Stadium this season. Plan your away trip:

Highmark Stadium Parking: Lots, Prices, and Best Options

Every Bills lot requires a parking pass bought in advance. There are no day-of-game cash or card sales in Bills lots; the only event-day transactions are for accessible parking, first come, first served in the Blue ADA and White ADA lots for vehicles with a valid placard. For 2026 the Bills sold lot parking as season parking passes, which local press reported sold out in August, and the team's parking page describes no single-game sale and prints no prices. For a visiting fan that leaves two realistic options: a pass bought on the resale market, which is good only for the lot printed on it (lost or unused passes are not refunded), or a neighbourhood lot such as the former Erie Community College South Campus described below.

The old numbered lots are gone. Bills lots are now colour-coded (Platinum, Gold, Bronze, Green, Gray, Orange, Blue and White), and the team tells each lot which way to approach: Platinum and Bronze along Southwestern Boulevard from the west, Orange and White along Southwestern Boulevard from the east, Gold along Big Tree Road from the west, Blue and Green along Big Tree Road from the east, and Gray along Abbott Road from the south. Lots open four hours before kickoff and close two hours after the game. Without a pass, the Bills point fans to neighbourhood lots, including the former Erie Community College South Campus (enter from Southwestern Boulevard or Big Tree Road), where no advance permit is required.

An August 2026 Action Network study put Highmark parking at $132 a game for stadium-owned lots, the highest in the NFL. That is a third-party estimate, not a price the Bills publish, so treat it as a warning about what passes can cost rather than the figure you will pay.

Tailgating is allowed in most Bills lots and ends at kickoff. Each pass covers a 9 ft by 18 ft stall plus a 9 ft by 10 ft tailgating area behind the vehicle, and emergency lanes and drive aisles must stay clear. Glass, stakes or anything driven into the ground, wood stoves and oil fryers, and drones are banned in the lots. Arrive at least 3.5 hours before kickoff to get the full Bills Mafia tailgate experience and to have a prayer of an easy exit later. If you'd rather skip the grill, the Pregame Plaza, inside the security gates between Gates C and D, has a mini field, photo ops, games and music, and closes 30 minutes before kickoff.

Where to Stay Near Highmark Stadium

There is very little in the way of hotel options near Highmark Stadium itself. You're better off choosing from the many hotels in and around downtown Buffalo, about 12 miles northwest, or near Buffalo Niagara International Airport about 15 miles to the north, and then driving or taking the Game Day Express on game day.

Downtown Buffalo is the right call. You get actual restaurant and bar options, the waterfront, and a short rideshare or bus ride to the stadium. The Elmwood Village neighborhood, a few miles from downtown, is a pleasant alternative — walkable, full of independent spots, and noticeably cheaper on game weekends than the hotels clustered around the Niagara Square area. If you want to be close to the action in Orchard Park itself, the Red Carpet Inn Orchard Park and Stadium View Inn are the nearest options — both are no-frills and priced accordingly, but you'll be walking distance from tailgate country.

Best Bars and Restaurants Near Highmark Stadium

The Orchard Park bar scene is small but reliable. This isn't a stadium-district entertainment zone — it's a suburb — so plan accordingly.

O'Neill's Stadium Inn (3864 Abbott Rd): Established in 2010, O'Neill's is a gastro pub billed as the ultimate destination for Bills fans, with a casual, hometown feel. It fills up fast on game days, so get there early — like two hours before kickoff early.

The Byrd House (Orchard Park): A casual pub atmosphere with 18 draft beers on tap and flat-screen TVs throughout. It bills itself as Orchard Park's best bar, and locals don't argue with that too hard.

Kettles (Orchard Park): A local bar and restaurant with drink specials and live music. Lower-key than O'Neill's, solid if you want to avoid the pregame crush at the more stadium-adjacent spots.

New York Beer Project – Orchard Park (The Beer Lodge): The largest NYBP location in Orchard Park , with a wide craft beer selection and a big enough footprint to actually get a seat. Worth the short drive if you're into something beyond macro-lager territory.

Eating and Exploring Buffalo Before Game Day

Got a spare day before the game? Spend it in the city, and eat the two things Buffalo is known for.

Wings. Anchor Bar on Main Street, just north of downtown, is where the Buffalo wing started in 1964; walk in through the Main Street door to the original wooden bar. Duff's Famous Wings on Sheridan Drive in Amherst has been frying since 1946, and its house warning is that medium is hot, so order a notch lower than you think. Gabriel's Gate in Allentown serves classic wings in an 1864 brick row house with tin ceilings and wood-burning fireplaces. All three are stops on Visit Buffalo Niagara's Buffalo Wing Trail, as is O'Neill's Stadium Inn in Orchard Park.

Beef on weck. Thin-sliced roast beef on a kimmelweck roll (salt and caraway) with jus and horseradish. Schwabl's in West Seneca, a Buffalo name since 1837, is recognised as the Home of the Beef on Weck; it keeps short hours, so check before you go. Charlie the Butcher's Kitchen on Wehrle Drive in Williamsville is about a mile from the airport, handy on arrival day.

Things to do. Canalside on the downtown waterfront has bars, plus bike rentals and boat tours in season. Niagara Falls is about 30 minutes' drive from Buffalo. Elmwood Village is the city's best walking street for independent shops, cafés and bars, and the Chippewa District downtown is where the night goes after dinner.

Highmark Stadium Bag Policy, Gates, and Game Day Tips

Highmark Stadium follows the NFL's clear bag policy: clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags not exceeding 12″ × 6″ × 12″; one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc or similar); or small clutch bags approximately the size of a hand (4.5″ × 6.5″).

A clutch may be carried in addition to one of the clear options. Highmark Stadium has seven security gates, lettered A through G, and eleven ticket entries into the building. Security gates open three hours before kickoff and ticket entries open two hours before; once your ticket is scanned there is no re-entry. The Bills' advice is simply to arrive early so you don't miss part of the game, and to add your mobile tickets to Apple or Google Wallet before you get there.

All points of sale at Highmark Stadium are completely cashless — debit/credit cards and mobile wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay) are accepted. Cash will not be accepted at any parking, retail, or concession location. If you only have cash, two reverse ATMs convert it to a card, one inside Entry 9 and one next to the Guest Experience Booth in Section 341. Highmark Stadium is smoke-free and tobacco-free, e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches included, and there are no designated smoking areas.

Highmark Stadium Accessibility: ADA Seating, Elevators, and Accessible Entry

Highmark Stadium was built to be fully ADA-compliant. Accessible seating platforms are located throughout the Main Concourse, the Upper Concourse and every premium space; book them through the Bills Box Office (Ticketmaster) before you arrive rather than hoping to sort it out at the gate.

Elevators are the stadium's primary way between levels and are marked throughout the concourses, premium spaces and seating areas. Accessible parking is in the Blue ADA and White ADA lots with a valid placard; the accessible spaces in the Gold, Platinum and Bronze lots also require an advance parking pass for that lot. Before the game, guests with accessible needs who park in a Bills lot can get a golf cart ride to the gates; after the game, carts run from Gate B to the western lots (Gray, Gold, Platinum, Bronze) and from Gate E to the eastern lots (White, Orange, Blue, Green). Book a cart by calling (716) 312-8933 or texting (716) 588-1960. Wheelchair escorts run inside the stadium only, between the gates or ticket entries and your seat; request one by texting (716) 588-1960 or calling (716) 312-8855. Assisted listening devices can be checked out at the Guest Experience Booths, and sensory kits with noise-cancelling headphones are available at booths and premium entries.

Highmark Stadium Seating Guide: Best Seats for Away Fans

The upper seating deck at New Highmark is designed to be the closest to the field of any stadium in the NFL, and it features the closest general admission tickets to the grass — more intimate than any other NFL venue. That's great news in principle, and genuinely bad news for you as an away fan, because it means the noise bearing down from above is not a distant rumble — it's right on top of you.

There is no formal dedicated away section at Highmark, so visiting fans are scattered. Your best bet is to cluster in the upper-level corner sections (300-level end zones), where away fans tend to naturally aggregate on the secondary market and where you'll have company without being completely isolated. The lower-level sideline seats offer better sightlines but put you deep in Bills Mafia territory. The stacked bowl design means seating in general is much closer to the field than in the old stadium , so even upper-deck seats are genuinely good views — don't sacrifice your sanity paying for lower-bowl access if you're outnumbered 50-to-1 down there.

Food and Drink at Highmark Stadium

Legends runs the food and beverage program, and the 2026 menu leans hard on Western New York. The Bills' own list includes beef on weck on a Wegmans kimmelweck roll with au jus and horseradish, several wing options including John Young's Mumbo Wings with Treasure Cave blue cheese, Chiavetta's BBQ chicken, brisket and ribs from Southern Junction, Babcia's Pierogi, Pham's Kitchen, Half Luna Empanadas, a chicken parm sandwich from Matty Matheson's Rizzo's, Anderson's frozen custard and Park Edge Sweet Shoppe sponge candy. Tim Hortons is on site. The novelty buy is the Labatt Beer Horn, a horn-shaped drinking vessel sold only at Highmark Stadium.

All concessions are cashless — tap or swipe only, no exceptions. The 360-degree concourse design maintains sightlines into the bowl from the concession areas , meaning you won't miss a play while you're waiting in line for a beer — a genuinely underrated feature that most NFL venues still haven't figured out.

Highmark Stadium for Away Fans

Highmark Stadium is not hostile the way some venues are hostile — nobody's going to dump a beer on you or chase you to your car. What you'll encounter is something more deeply unsettling: a fanbase that is utterly certain of its righteousness, doesn't particularly notice you're there, and is going to make noise that makes rational communication impossible from the second quarter onward. This is one of the coldest, snowiest, and most raucous environments in the NFL , and the new building was specifically designed to concentrate that atmosphere. Just over 60,000 seats, about 11,500 fewer than the old stadium, creates a more intimate "wall of support" atmosphere, and the canopy over more than 60 percent of the seats projects crowd noise straight down onto the field. Wear your team's colors — Bills fans generally respect it if you're there and loud — but don't expect sympathy when Josh Allen inevitably makes the play that ends your afternoon.

Getting Out of Highmark Stadium After the Game

This is Orchard Park, which means there are essentially two roads out and 60,000 people all trying to use them simultaneously. Plan your exit before the game ends.

Transit: The first Game Day Express buses leave the stadium approximately 30 minutes after the end of the game. NFTA buses load at the stadium's Transit Center near Abbott Road and Southwestern Boulevard — get there as the fourth quarter winds down if you want the first wave. Expect a 15–25 minute wait for a seat; the bus itself takes 30–45 minutes back downtown.

Driving: Expect slow going on every road out after a full house. After the game Big Tree Road (Route 20A) closes to westbound traffic from Fieldhouse Drive to Route 219, and to eastbound traffic from Erie College Drive to Southwestern Boulevard. The play: wait 30–45 minutes after the final whistle, grab a bite or a beer if anything's still open near the gates, and let the main surge clear. From the airport corridor, exiting Route 219 at Milestrip Road and heading east against the gameday traffic flow, then turning right on Mid County Drive and right again onto Southwestern Boulevard, is a useful back-route that avoids the worst of the Abbott Road bottleneck.

Rideshare: The pickup zone is at the eastern end of the former ECC South Campus; the Bills route riders out through Entry 3 and Gate B, then across the campus. Expect long waits, especially after night games, and have a backup plan.

Highmark Stadium FAQ: Transit, Bag Policy, Parking, and Game Day Tips

How do I get to Highmark Stadium without a car?

The NFTA Game Day Express runs to and from Bills home games for $5 one-way (exact cash or Token Transit). Buses leave from the Metropolitan Transportation Center downtown, University Station, Utica Rail Station, Eastern Hills Mall, the Thruway Plaza Transit Center and the Niagara Falls Transportation Center.

What is the bag policy at Highmark Stadium?

Approved bags include clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags no larger than 12″ × 6″ × 12″, one-gallon clear freezer bags, and small non-clear clutch bags up to 4.5″ × 6.5″. One clear bag plus one clutch per person.

What does parking cost at Highmark Stadium?

Bills lot parking for 2026 was sold as season parking passes, reported sold out in August, and the team's parking page lists no single-game sale or prices. Every Bills lot needs a pass bought in advance, and there are no game-day cash or card sales in Bills lots except accessible parking in the Blue ADA and White ADA lots. Visiting fans generally buy a resale pass (valid only for the lot printed on it) or use a neighbourhood lot such as the former Erie Community College South Campus, which needs no advance permit. An August 2026 Action Network study estimated stadium-owned-lot parking at $132 a game, the NFL's highest; that is a third-party estimate, not a team price.

What time do Highmark Stadium gates open?

Security gates open three hours before kickoff and ticket entries open two hours before. Parking lots open four hours before kickoff.

Is Highmark Stadium cashless?

Yes — all points of sale are completely cashless. Cash will not be accepted at any Bills parking lot, retail, or concession location. Debit, credit, and mobile wallets work everywhere.

What are the best seats for away fans? There is no designated away section. Upper-level corner sections in the 300-level end zones are where visiting fans tend to cluster on the secondary market — good sightlines given the intimate bowl design, and you'll have company.

How far is Highmark Stadium from Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF)? Approximately 15 miles; plan 25–35 minutes by car in normal traffic, and considerably longer on game day.

What airport should I fly into for a Bills game? Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) is your primary option. Niagara Falls International (IAG) is a secondary option for certain carriers but adds distance and complexity.
