Levi's Stadium is not in San Francisco. It is in Santa Clara, a suburb 45 miles south of the Golden Gate Bridge, wedged between tech campuses and the Great America amusement park. This is the single most important thing to know before planning your trip, because visitors who book a hotel near Fisherman's Wharf and assume they will "just drive down" are in for a miserable afternoon. The stadium itself is modern, clean, and aggressively corporate — opened in 2014, capacity 68,500, home of the San Francisco 49ers. As a venue it is comfortable in the way a nice airport terminal is comfortable. As a place to watch football, its defining characteristic is not the atmosphere but the sun.

What a Trip Here Costs, in Numbers

NFL tickets on Vivid Seats are listed for all 6 upcoming games, starting at $105 (Denver Broncos, Oct 4); the priciest game to get into starts at $442 (Las Vegas Raiders, Nov 8).

A 3-star or better hotel within 15 miles of the stadium runs from $121 a night, based on 154 hotels.

The airport for this trip is Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International (SJC), 4 miles from the stadium.

The next 12 months bring 6 visiting teams, none of them based within 300 miles. The longest trip: Philadelphia Eagles, 2,500 miles each way.

Ticket prices checked Oct 3; hotel rates checked Oct 2.

Ticket figures are each game's lowest listed price with estimated fees added. The hotel figure is the 25th-percentile nightly rate of the hotels sampled. Distances are straight-line, stadium to airport and stadium to stadium.

Getting to Levi's Stadium

Fly into SJC, not SFO. San Jose Mineta International Airport is about 5 miles from the stadium — a 10-minute rideshare on a normal day, 25-30 minutes on a game day. San Francisco International is 32 miles north, and with Bay Area traffic you are looking at 45 minutes to well over an hour. SFO has more international routes, but if you have a choice, SJC saves you real time and frustration.

VTA Light Rail is the best transit option. The Orange Line stops at Great America Station, which drops you directly at the stadium's north side. If you are coming from San Francisco, take Caltrain to Mountain View, then transfer to the VTA Orange Line — the whole trip runs about 90 minutes. If you are coming from the East Bay, BART to Milpitas Station connects to the same Orange Line. VTA runs extra service for events and continues running for about an hour after the final whistle. A joint Caltrain + VTA Day Pass costs $7.50 on top of your Caltrain fare and covers the round trip.

From downtown San Jose, VTA light rail runs directly to Great America Station — no transfers needed, about 25 minutes.

Rideshare warning: Uber and Lyft work fine getting to the stadium, but post-game pickup is a nightmare. More on that below.

Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, and Los Angeles Rams are all heading to Levi's Stadium this season. Plan your away trip:

Levi's Stadium Parking

All Levi's Stadium parking is cashless and must be purchased in advance online. Expect to pay $50-$85 for general lots, with premium lots running higher for marquee games. The color-coded lots (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow) surround the stadium, with Red Lots being closest and filling up first. The Great American Lot at 4701 Patrick Henry Drive is a budget option around $25, but it is a 15-20 minute walk to the gates.

Season pass holders pay around $800 for a full-season parking spot. For one-off games, buy your pass early — day-of inventory is limited and prices spike.

Tailgating is allowed in designated lots and the culture is strong, particularly in the Green and Red lots. Gates open 4 hours before kickoff for tailgating, though the specific rules (no open flames, charcoal grills only in certain areas) change periodically — check the stadium site before you pack your setup.

Where to Stay Near Levi's Stadium

Santa Clara puts you closest to the stadium, but it is mostly business hotels — Hilton Santa Clara is literally adjacent to the venue, and there are a handful of Marriotts and Hyatts within a mile. Fine for convenience, dead for atmosphere. You will be surrounded by office parks and chain restaurants.

Downtown San Jose (6 miles south) is the move if you want an actual neighborhood. There are walkable streets with restaurants, bars, and breweries, plus a direct VTA light rail connection to the stadium. Room rates are often cheaper than the Santa Clara airport-adjacent hotels, which is a nice bonus.

San Francisco (45 miles north) is worth it only if you are making a multi-day trip and want to experience the city. Do not book in SF for a day trip to the game — the commute will eat your afternoon. If you do stay in the city, plan to take Caltrain south rather than drive.

Campbell and Los Gatos are quieter suburban alternatives south of San Jose with surprisingly good dining. Both work well if you have a rental car.

Eating & Drinking Near Levi's Stadium

The area immediately surrounding Levi's Stadium is not a dining destination. It is tech campus sprawl. You need to plan ahead or you will end up eating stadium food, which is fine but overpriced.

Clara's Junction is the closest real pre-game spot, less than half a mile from the gates. Outdoor beer garden with fire pits, lawn games, and food trucks on game days — it fills up early, so arrive at least two hours before kickoff.

Barebottle Brewing Company at Santa Clara Square Marketplace (under 2 miles away) has a solid tap list and good vibes. Nearby, Puesto at the same complex does upscale tacos worth the detour.

Original Gravity Public House in downtown San Jose is genuinely good — rotating craft taps, a crowd that cares about beer, and enough TVs to catch early games. Worth the 15-minute rideshare.

HiroNori Craft Ramen and Pizza My Heart are in a strip mall less than a mile from the stadium if you just need to fuel up fast.

Levi's Stadium Game Day Tips

Sun exposure is THE issue at Levi's Stadium. This is not a minor inconvenience — it is the defining feature of attending a daytime game here. The stadium opens to the east, meaning the east-side seats bake in direct afternoon California sun while the west side sits in the shadow of the luxury suite tower. Early-season games in September can push surface temperatures past 100 degrees on the sunny side. Players on the home sideline (east) have complained publicly about the heat disadvantage.

What to bring: Sunscreen (reapply at halftime), a hat with a brim, sunglasses, and a sealed bottle of water (permitted through the gates). The stadium has misting stations and free sunscreen dispensers, but they are not enough if you are sitting in sections 108-123 for a 1:00 PM kickoff.

Clear bag policy: One clear plastic bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12", or a one-gallon zip-lock. One small non-clear clutch up to 4.5" x 6.5". No backpacks, no fanny packs, no exceptions. Gates open 90 minutes before kickoff.

Stadium Wi-Fi is legitimately excellent — one of the best-connected venues in the NFL, which tracks for a stadium built in the middle of Silicon Valley.

Levi's Stadium Seating Guide

This is where Levi's Stadium requires more homework than most NFL venues. The sun/shade divide is not a preference — it is a fundamentally different experience.

West side (shaded): Sections 132-144 (lower bowl) and 232-246 (mezzanine) sit behind the suite tower and are shaded for most or all of an afternoon game. The 200-level mezzanine on this side is the sweet spot — good sightlines, shade from early in the game, and prices below the lower bowl. If you are buying tickets for a day game, this is where you want to be.

East side (sunny): Sections 108-123 (lower), 209-223 (mezzanine), and 405-418 (upper) get direct sun for most of the game. These sections are cheaper for a reason. The visiting team bench sits in front of sections 111-119, which means away fans naturally cluster here — and get cooked in the process.

Upper deck (300-level): Sections 301-315 on the east side benefit from the overhang of the upper structure, providing partial shade. A solid budget pick with full-field views.

For evening games, the sun equation flips — the sun sets behind the west side, so the last hour of daylight actually hits the west sections. But by the second half of evening kickoffs, it is a non-issue. If your game starts at 5:15 PM or later, buy based on sightlines, not shade.

Food and Drink at Levi's Stadium

Levi's Stadium punches well above its weight as a concessions destination — this is genuinely one of the most culinarily ambitious venues in the NFL, and it earns that reputation. The undisputed signature item is the Dungeness crab sandwich from Crab Sammies (Section 124). A crab sandwich isn't unique on its own, but the opportunity to buy one at a stadium is — Dungeness crab is a Bay Area delicacy, and Levi's Stadium's Crab Sammies stand honors that tradition directly. It's the one item every first-time visitor should seek out. Beyond that, the concourse menu leans hard into the Bay Area's diverse food culture. Standout options include garlic noodles from Dynasty Noodles (Section 110), chips and guacamole from Puesto (Sections 116 & 129), and a halal lamb and beef gyro from Kabob Trolley (Section 119). The stadium's rotating signature hot dog program is also worth noting: Levi's introduced the "Silva Faithful Frank" as a permanent concourse item after fans voted on several different frank options throughout the previous season — it won on taste. The Sourdough Crab Sandwich, a previous winner of the stadium's "Coin Toss" fan-vote competition, has also been served on the main concourse. The diversity is real and intentional: menus reflect the Bay Area's culinary landscape with specialty dishes including bao buns, curries, and tortas.

On pricing, budget accordingly — Levi's is on the expensive end of the NFL spectrum. As of 2025, expect to pay $14 for a 16-ounce can of beer. Only three NFL stadiums charge more: Raymond James Stadium ($14.25), Allegiant Stadium ($14.99), and Commanders Field ($16.49). Beer options span American Lager, Premium Draft, Organic Draft, and Craft Canned categories, with popular pours including Elysian Brewing's Hazy '96, Stone Brewing's Delicious IPA, and Estrella Jalisco. For a standard meal — say a hot dog or chicken sandwich, fries, and a soft drink — expect to spend $25–$35. Non-alcoholic drinks (sodas, water, Peet's Coffee) typically run $5–$8. Season ticket members do get some relief: the 49ers' Member Inclusive Menu covers over 15 items including hot dogs, chicken tenders, nachos, garlic fries, and Pepsi products, though alcohol and specialty items are excluded.

One notable policy: all transactions at Levi's Stadium are cashless, though reverse ATMs are installed at Section C117 on the main concourse, in the United Club, at Section 308 in the upper concourse, and at Toyota Gate F for anyone who arrives with cash. The local partnership most worth calling out is with Araujo's Mexican Grill, a San Jose food-truck success story that brought its operation inside the stadium. Levi's began working with Araujo's — which started as a food truck in San Jose — with its signature carne asada fries and tacos available at concessions; the eatery's philosophy centers on making everything fresh daily, including its sauces, which are created in-house. It's exactly the kind of local-first booking that makes Levi's concessions feel authentically Bay Area rather than generic stadium fare.

Levi's Stadium for Away Fans

Levi's is one of the easier NFL stadiums to visit as an opposing fan. The atmosphere is not hostile — it is corporate. A significant chunk of the crowd on any given Sunday is tech workers on company tickets who may or may not care deeply about the outcome. The stadium is too open and too spread out to generate the kind of claustrophobic intensity you feel at a place like Arrowhead or the Linc. If your team scores, you will hear your fellow away fans clearly because the home crowd thins out early in blowouts.

There is no designated visiting section. Away supporters typically end up scattered throughout the stadium, with a natural cluster near the visiting bench (sections 111-119, east side). The 49ers faithful tailgate hard in the parking lots — that is where the real energy lives, not inside the bowl.

Getting Out of Levi's Stadium

Post-game egress at Levi's Stadium is genuinely bad, and you should plan for it. The stadium's goal is to clear the last vehicle within 2 hours of the final whistle, which tells you everything about what to expect.

If you took VTA: Move immediately after the game ends. VTA runs extra light rail service for about an hour post-event. There are two queue lines — Gate A side for Mountain View/Caltrain, Gate F side for Milpitas BART, Alum Rock, Winchester, and Santa Teresa. The lines get long. Do not linger.

If you drove: Expect 30-60 minutes just to exit the parking lot complex. The lots around Tasman Drive and Great America Parkway bottleneck badly. Sitting in your car for 20 minutes with the AC on and waiting for the first wave to clear is a legitimate strategy.

If you need a rideshare: Walk. Get at least 3-4 blocks away from the stadium before requesting a car. The designated pickup zones get overwhelmed, drivers do not want to sit in the gridlock, and your app will either surge-price you or fail to connect. Walking toward the Hyatt Regency or the strip malls along Great America Parkway gives you a much better shot at a quick pickup.

Levi's Stadium and the 2026 World Cup

Levi's Stadium — operating under the FIFA-required name San Francisco Bay Area Stadium — hosted six World Cup 2026 matches: five group-stage games and one Round of 32 knockout match.

  • June 13 — Qatar vs. Switzerland
  • June 16 — Austria vs. Jordan
  • June 19 — Türkiye vs. Paraguay
  • June 22 — Jordan vs. Algeria
  • June 25 — Paraguay vs. Australia
  • July 1 — Round of 32

The June 13 match was the only daytime kickoff and the one where sun exposure was a real factor. The four evening group matches and the July 1 knockout game all kicked off late enough that the sun was low or setting.

Levi's Stadium Accessibility

Levi's Stadium is fully ADA-compliant with wheelchair-accessible seating and companion seats available throughout the venue on every level. Accessible seating includes wheelchair spaces with up to three companion seats, semi-ambulatory seating, and designated aisle seats. Accessible rows are typically located at the top of most sections. Purchase accessible seating through Ticketmaster or call the Levi's Stadium Visa Box Office at (415) 464-9377 ext. 4.

Wheelchair assistance is available at all entry gates — contact Mobility Services at (408) 579-4610 to arrange in advance. Note that wheelchairs are not available to rent or borrow at the venue. ADA parking is located in Red Lot 1, and a courtesy shuttle runs from accessible drop-off/pick-up areas to Gate C before and after events.

The stadium has elevators and escalators at all major gates, wheelchair ramps throughout, assistive listening devices and closed captioning available on request, and accessible water fountains and refill stations. Sensory-inclusive kits can be checked out at Guest Services for fans who need them.

Levi's Stadium FAQ

Is Levi's Stadium actually in San Francisco? No. Levi's Stadium is in Santa Clara, California, approximately 45 miles south of San Francisco. The 49ers moved from Candlestick Park in 2014 but kept "San Francisco" in the team name. For trip planning purposes, think of the stadium as being in Silicon Valley, between San Jose and Sunnyvale.

Which side of Levi's Stadium has shade? The west side. The luxury suite tower on the west sideline casts shade over sections 132-144 and 232-246 during afternoon games. The east side (sections 108-123, 209-223, 405-418) gets direct sun and can be brutally hot for early-season or midday kickoffs. For day games, always prioritize west-side seats.

Should I fly into SJC or SFO? SJC (San Jose) is 5 miles from the stadium and the clear winner for convenience. SFO is 32 miles north and requires fighting Bay Area traffic. The exception is international travelers — SFO has far more long-haul routes. If you are flying domestically, book SJC.

What is the best way to get to Levi's Stadium without a car? VTA Light Rail, Orange Line, to Great America Station. It drops you at the stadium's north entrance. From San Francisco, take Caltrain to Mountain View and transfer to VTA. From the East Bay, take BART to Milpitas and transfer to VTA. A joint Caltrain + VTA Day Pass is available for $7.50 above the Caltrain base fare.

How bad is the post-game traffic? Bad. The stadium targets clearing all vehicles within 2 hours of the final whistle. If you drove, expect significant delays exiting the lot. If you need a rideshare, walk several blocks away before requesting. If you took VTA, head to the queue lines immediately — extra service runs for about an hour after the event but the lines build fast.
